Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Says Surgery Wait Times Too Long

The MPP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound says patients are waiting far too long for some surgeries.

Bill Walker says it is unacceptable that government cutbacks are forcing patients to wait longer and longer for care.

He worries wait times could condemn patients to life long disabilities or even death.

Walker says a senior patient in Owen Sound was told to wait 14 months for cataract surgery, which is double the provincial benchmark, and three times as long as the national wait time average.

He says Mr. Birch could go blind while waiting for access to health care.

He demanded answers from the Health Minister at Queen's Park today, wanting to know why the wait is still so long 10 years after the government launched a Wait Time Strategy.

“The Liberal government is failing to meet its own Cataract Surgery targets and can`t say why wait times have more than doubled, from 180 to 420 days for some constituents,” Walker said. “The minister`s silence is causing our patients harm and putting their health in jeopardy.”
