The general manager of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is hoping the current review of the Conservation Act will address three main issues.
Brian Horner explains the comment period for the review ends October 19 and the three main areas of concern are funding, governance, and roles and responsibilities.
Horner points out provincial funding for Conservation authorities has not changed in 20 years but wages and other expenses have gone, projects cost more, and health and safety regulations often now require more people on the job than in the past.
Horner adds the conservation authorities also want to be recognized for the water management and science-based expertise they provide.
