Police Honoured For Solving Decades Old Murder Of Straford Woman

The police department that solved the cold case murder of former Stratford resident Lynne Knight has received an award for their efforts.

The Torrance Police Department was recognized for the Best Cold Case Solved by the California Peace Officers Association.

The 28-year-old neo natal nurse moved to Torrance in the late 1970's. She was brutally murdered in her apartment on August 29, 1979 at 2:55am.

Investigators of the gruesome crime felt she was killed by someone she knew. They questioned multiple suspects, but could not gather enough evidence for an arrest.

A new cold case unit finally made an arrest 30 years after the crime. Five years after that, Lynne's former boyfriend was sentenced to 26 years to life for stabbing and strangling Knight.
