New Cultural Program For International Students At AMDSB

Huron County's Arts and Heritage Network and the Avon Maitland District School Board have launched a new program.   It's designed to encourage the board's almost 200 international students to see more of the attractions in Huron and Perth.

Huron's Culture Development Officer Rick Sickenger explains host families traditionally take their guests to see Niagara Falls and the CN Tower, but they're less likely to show off some the attractions in their home county.

So they've worked with several tourist attractions in Huron and Perth counties to create a printed cultural passport that highlights the attractions in the two counties.

Sickenger adds the trips to Niagara Falls and Toronto are paid for by the hosts so the attractions featured in the cultural passports offer significant discounts to make it easier to visit local attractions.

Attractions features in the Cultural Passports include the North Huron Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story, the Bayfield Wind and Water Festival, the Blyth Festival, the Exeter Rodeo, the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, Goderich Little Theatre, Huron County Multicultural Festival and the Huron County Museum and Historic Gaol.
