Giant Hogweed Near Bayfield Will Remain Until Spring

The Giant Hogweed that's been growing under the bridge over the Bayfield River at the north end of the village will remain there until next spring.

Bluewater councillor Bill Whetstone had asked that the county get involved in dealing the Giant Hogweed and has now been informed that next spring would be the best time to deal with the weed and the MTO and the property owner will take care of it at that time.

Trying to kill a plant that has matured can be very costly and even dangerous because the sap from the Giant Hogweed can burn skin. Whetstone says his only concern with that is that it gives the seeds from the Hog Weed more time to disperse and create more problems next year.
