Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund Applications Underway

A coastal resources manager with the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation welcomes news regarding funding through the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.

Geoff Peach says it's not a complete surprise because the program is four years old now, but adds it's not automatic and it's a program that provides much-needed funding for projects that often can't get funding anywhere else.

Peach adds the Butt-Free Beach project is one of a couple of projects in Huron County that have benefited from the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.

The Great Lakes Guardian Community fund provides up to $25,000 to not-for-profit community groups for projects like planting trees, creating rain gardens, restoring wetland habitat, controlling invasive species, cleaning up beaches or shorelines and naturalizing stream banks and shorelines.

Applications for funding will be accepted until October 23 of this year.
