Race car legend Mario Andretti was in Owen Sound today.
He was at Pickett Ride Centre to meet fans as a spokesperson for Firestone Tires.
The 75 year old Andretti was a superstar winning 111 times on major racing circuits.
Andretti says his success as a driver hinged on his willingness to go to the edge. He says that's a philosophy that carries over to life.
"If you want to achieve something special you gotta push the limit, push that envelope. Mediocrity is very convenient but if you have that ambition to do something special you gotta go to the limit," says Andretti.
He says the danger involved in car racing is part of the attraction.
"Probably that's the lure, to try to defeat something or at least control something that's trying to defeat you, like a wild animal tamer, what is going to bring me close to this beast and not allow it to devour me."
In 1999 Mario Andretti was was named American Driver of the Century by the Associated Press.
