Bruce Power Mails Out New Emergency Guide

A safety guide is being mailed out to homes and businesses near the Bruce Power site.

The company has created "Be Prepared Grey Bruce Huron", a 30-page guide that contains emergency phone numbers, checklists and instructions for remaining safe during an emergency situation.

Vice President of Corporate Affairs James Scongack says the guide will be mailed to the 65,000 people who live within a 50 km radius of the Bruce Power site, which includes most of Bruce County, as well as portions of Grey County and Huron County.

He says the guide not only covers a nuclear emergency, but also weather and fire-related emergencies.

"Really what it is, is just one guide that people can keep in their drawer at home that if there was an emergency on-site, could be an unlikely event such as a nuclear situation to a more common event like severe weather, they have all the information that they need in one book," says Scongack.

Scongack says the company has completed distribution of potassium iodide (KI) tablets to homes and businesses within 10 km of the Bruce Power site, while they expect to have the tablets available for pick-up at selected local pharmacies in the 50 km zone by September.

He adds the emergency guide will contain a voucher for anybody in the 50 km zone who wishes to have the tablets on hand.
