With things to do this weekend in a lot of different places, the OPP is putting out a reminder about pet care.
The Grey County OPP says officers receive several reports of animals left unattended in parked vehicles during long weekends in the summer.
Temperatures inside a vehicle can quickly escalate to fatal levels.
Dogs especially can go into distress and suffer brain damage or even die in a hot environment.
“Leaving your pet unattended in a vehicle is one of the most irresponsible decisions a pet owner can make. Your pet’s safety is your responsibility. Placing them in a dangerous environment could not only be harmful, it could result in the animal owner being charged as well as being fatal to the animal. Let’s make this summer a happy one for all of our family members, including our pets,” says Connie Mallory, Chief Inspector, Ontario SPCA.
Police are asking people if they come across an unattended vehicle with an animal inside and it appears to be in distress to report it immediately.
