The County of Perth is taking steps to establish a committee that will create community involvement opportunities for seniors.
Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Senior's Secretariat, the county will hire a consultant to incorporate an age-friendly approach to a variety of community organization's programs and services.
The committee will work in partnership with the Perth District Health Unit as well as the local Healthcare Alliance and the regional branch of the Alzheimer Society.
"There will be some members from community groups, there will be council members, there will be staff on this," Perth County's accessibility coordinator Julia Opie told council, "We will also be putting out some information about having two seniors sit on this committee."
The county has also applied for funding to make their headquarters in the County Courthouse in Stratford more accessible through the installation of an elevator which was slated for construction in 2017. The project will begin as early as next year if the application is successful.
