The internationally-renowned Toronto Consort and Brookside Festival Chamber Choir is coming to Meaford Hall, August 1, to present a special matinee concert.
The special concert is being held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Samuel de Champlain in the southern Georgian Bay region.
Leslie Bochna, the cultural programming coordinator for Meaford Hall, says the concert will also feature First Nations singers and drummers performing Wendake/Huronia.
"Wendake/Huronia is a new work by the distinguished Canadian composer, John Beckwith. The Brookside Music Association commissioned Beckwith’s latest work with funding from the Ontario Arts Council."
Bochna describes Wendake/Huronia as "a unique celebration of Wendat culture" and Meaford Hall as "the ideal location for a multi-disciplinary performance."
The program also includes Toronto Consort playing 17th-century French music.
Showtime is 2pm on Saturday, August 1, at Meaford Hall. For more information (including ticket prices) click here.
