The OPP in Perth County has dedicated more resources to the construction zones and bypasses around the main street of Mitchell. Barricades are in place and some of the traffic is detoured around the downtown area.
Police report that in the last six days, officers have laid seven charges under the Highway Traffic Act for drivers not obeying the signs.
Early last Sunday morning, an OPP officer spotted three young men moving construction site barricades on Ontario Rd. in Mitchell in order to redirect or block traffic.
They were each charged with removing or defacing a barricade, contrary to the Public Lands Act.
The OPP reminds drivers that speeding fines are often doubled when driving through construction zones, and criminal charges may apply if a worker’s safety is endangered by your driving.
