Southgate is considering a new development charge on solar farms.
When council made an agreement with Samsung Energy for a $200-million, 50 megawatt solar farm at the northwest corner of Southgate, there were no development charges in place for solar.
Under the proposed new development charge, the solar company would face a $330,000 fee.
Council heard that if the new development charge is applied to a solar farm, the solar company would make an equal deduction from its so-called "community fund" of $75,000 a year.
The proposed new development charge would apply for any new solar projects coming into Southgate.
