Clean-up Continues After Wingham Oil Spill

Heavy rains are being blamed for a oil spill into the Maitland River in Wingham earlier this week.

The spill was noticed just before 5 p.m. Tuesday and was traced back to an oil separator on the Foxton Fuels property on North Street.

Initially Wingham Police and the North Huron Fire Department were called to the scene with firecrews managing the spill until a response from the Ministry of the Environment.

There has been no information on how much oil leaked.

Suncor, the owner of the property, is now doing clean-up and remediation work at the site.

Ministry of Environment officials have inspected the oil separator and are satisfied it is operating properly adding they are also satisfied with the clean-up effort currently underway.
