Staff, the mayor and deputy mayor of Goderich have been asked to look at a $1.1-million expansion of the Maitland Valley Medical Centre.
That's a scaled-down version of an expansion that was proposed earlier. It would include some renovations to existing space, as well as the addition of up to 3,000 sq ft of new space. There is a shortage of space at the centre and councillors expressed their feeling at this week's meeting that it was important that all of the members of the Family Health Team remain together in one building.
Goderich CAO Larry McCabe adds there would also have to be more space for the blood donor clinic if they want to remain there and they would have to be responsible for the extra cost in creating that space.
McCabe says they hope to be able to present something to council in the next two or three weeks.
