As the Canada Day holiday approaches, Perth County OPP are warning they will increase patrols and visibility on local roads, waterways and trails.
Perth OPP are planning Ride programs, and focused patrols on the County's paved east west roads.
“With the Canada Day Weekend approaching, I would like to remind all drivers travelling on roads within Perth County that they have the ability to make it an incident free weekend. Looking at last year’s Perth County OPP Canada Day holiday traffic statistics, I see much room for improvement in the choices road users should make, such as; obey speed limits, avoid distractions, refrain from drinking and driving, and avoid risky behaviour. Let’s all enjoy a safe weekend” Inspector Steve Porter, Perth County OPP Detachment Commander said in a statement.
Statistics in Perth County indicate that a quarter of fatal collisions are the result of failing to stop or yield at intersections.
Officers will target intersections that are the focus of public complaints, or have historic high collision rates.
During the Canada Day holiday in 2014, Perth OPP issued a number of tickets including 94 speeding infractions, 2 racing charges, 12 distracted driving tickets, 3 impaired charges, and 2 drug offences.
