Highway of Tears Documentary Screening in Owen Sound

A coalition of Owen Sound groups will host a screening this evening of a documentary about approximately 1,200 missing or murdered Canadian Aboriginal women.

The production, "Highway of Tears" will be aired at the The Grey Bruce Health Unit on 17th Street East starting at 7pm.

Half of the cases of missing or murdered women that have occurred since the 1960's remain unsolved.

Highway 16 in Northern British Columbia has become known as the Highway of Tears as a symbol for the women.

The documentary explores the effects of generational poverty, residential schools, systemic violence and high unemployment on first nations reserves, and connects that to the missing and murdered women.
