Huron Gets Answers About Broadband Expansion Project

Huron County's Warden says he got some of the answers he was looking for lthe recent Western Warden's meeting in Blyth.

Huron County councillors had asked for an accounting of the money that has been spent so far on the SWIFT project, which is designed to bring broadband service to rural communities in Southwestern Ontario.

Councillors also had some questions about how long it would be before the service was extended to some of the more remote locations, or what's been referred to as 'the last mile'.

Paul Gowing says he was assured that an accounting of all of the money spent to date would be made to all of the counties shortly.

He also said it was suggested that there be a requirement that the service providers be required to work on the remote areas at the same time they work on the more populated communities as a condition for receiving funding.
