Meaford Kayaker Calls For Rescue

A man kayaking down Big Head River had to shout for help when he became disoriented after being separated from his friends.

Meaford fire fighters located the overdue kayaker safe and uninjured on the river bank.

A resident on Miller St. in Meaford heard a man shouting for help about 11:37pm on Tuesday and called 911.

The kayaker's friends also filed a report that their companion was overdue.

The 20-year-old kayaker called out after nightfall, realizing he was lost and had no lifejacket.

Police remind kayakers about basic safety, such as letting someone know your route, and carrying water and a first aid kit.
