Grey Bruce Motorcycle Ride for Arthritis Coming Up

Motorcycle riders across midwestern Ontario are being asked to put Saturday, June 20 on their calendars. That's the date for the 14th annual Jean Farmer Motorcycle Ride for Arthritis.

It starts at 10am that morning from the Blue Water Curling Club on 19th St. E in Owen Sound. Motorcyclists proceed at their own pace on a 165 km route through Grey and Bruce counties. The ride ends back at the curling club.

In 13 years, the Grey Bruce Motorcycle Ride for Arthritis has raised more than $77,000 for The Arthritis Society. Money assists research and local programs to support those living with arthritis.

The minimum pledge for participants in the June 20 ride is $35.

There are over 4.2-million Canadians living with arthritis. It is one of the leading causes of pain and physical disability in Canada.

Grey Bruce has the second highest prevalence of arthritis in the province at 23.4 per cent of people 12 years old and over, self-reporting, according to the Canadian Community Health Survey in  November 2010)

The Grey-Bruce ride was re-named in 2013 in memory of the late Jean Farmer who was a patron of the ride and a participant well into her 80's.
