Trees In Meaford's Dog Park Concern Users

The Municipality of Meaford and the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society want to know how many residents are concerned about the presence of trees in the leash-free dog park in urban Meaford.

Society President Evelyn Dean says her organization and the municipality are asking the public whether they think that trees in the park pose a danger to dogs.

So, the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society created a questionnaire, which is available at the municipal office in urban Meaford or the administration office at Memorial Park.

You can also download a copy of the questionnaire from Meaford’s website at www.meaford.ca.

The deadline for handing in the questionnaire is Friday, July 10.

Dean says if a majority of those responding feel the trees should be moved, they will be transplanted to a place outside the dog park.

"Some residents told us they worry that a dog could get hurt if it banged into a tree during a romp in the park," says Dean.

Dean says neither she nor the society had any serious concern about the possibility of injury when the trees were first planted.

"Because some dog owners worry about possible injury to their pets, we decided to give residents a chance to express their opinion on the matter," she says. "After all, Meaford is legally responsible for any injuries to their dogs in this municipal facility."
