Ice Remains At Sauble Beach As Long Weekend Begins

The Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce’s manager says the ice in the water isn't too much of a concern for the village’s businesses.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association in the United States says ice concentration in Lake Huron is at 0.1 percent - all of which is situated on the west coast of the Bruce Peninsula.

Ice could be seen on the 11 km-long beach as of Friday afternoon (pictured above) as the Victoria Day long weekend in the resort community unofficially began.

“Traditionally, not a lot of people go swimming on this particular weekend anyways,” Steve Holler tells CKNX News. “Most of the people who come up open their cottages and do some early camping.”

According to NOAA graphs, the only other part of the Great Lakes that currently has ice is the eastern part of Lake Superior, near Sault Ste. Marie.
