Romeo Dallaire Stops In Huron Bruce To Support Allan Thompson

Retired General and former Senator Romeo Dallaire was in Huron Bruce Friday to support federal Liberal candidate Allan Thompson with his election bid.

Dallaire's trip included stops at Legion Halls in Walkerton and Goderich, and ended in a major speech at the Kincardine Legion.

He also spoke with high school students at a midday rally in Clinton.

Dallaire commanded the United Nations mission during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, and Thompson covered his efforts as a reporter for the Toronto Star.

Thompson documented Dallaire's journey as a General, and Dallaire's recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Dallaire was appointed as a Senator in 2005 and retired last year and has since become a crusader on behalf of child soldier's in the world.

"I’m here because a very good friend in whom I have an enormous amount of confidence and respect is on the hustings to hopefully represent this riding in Ottawa as a Liberal MP," says Dallaire. "I believe he is most worthy of the support that I might be able to provide him in the little while that I am in the riding.’’

Earlier on Friday Dallaire stopped by the CKNX studios to chat with Kirk Dickson, that interview can be heard below:
