Owen Sound police honoured citizens who help keep the community safe with the Chief's Citation Awards.
Last April, Sarah Gray saw a cyclist on the road in Owen Sound who had been hit by a car. The first year nursing student administered first aid and stayed until paramedics arrived. The man had serious injuries, but has since recovered.
Gray says she did what anyone would to help.
"I think that it's in us all and I humbly accept all of the acknowledgement for it but I know that all of us have done something like this," she says.
Ronald Carrick and his son Travis along with friend Robert Arnburg were fishing at the harbour last September. The Goderich men saved a woman who had fallen into the water.
Ronald Carrick says instinct kicked in.
"I didn't do it to be recognized or anything like that, I just did it to help out and I'm just glad I could help somebody else that's all," says Carrick.
And last November at 1am in the morning, Dominic Nolan saw a vehicle being driven erratically. Nolan followed and the vehicle crashed. The driver tried to run away but Nolan caught him and held him until police arrived. The driver was impaired.
"Having known a lot of the fine police women and men here in town it really makes it an honour to be able to help them out," says Nolan.
Nolan says he'd do the same thing again.
