Goderich Beach Erosion Concerns

The combination of a higher level in Lake Huron and a strong storm last October created some serious erosion problems at Goderich beaches.

Parks Supervisor Martin Quinn says thirty to forty per cent of the beach has been lost at the Cove as the sand has been swept away and left stones on the beach. At the Main Beach it's only about twenty-five per cent.

Quinn adds they've planted grass to help hold the beach but they can't plant grass right up to the water's edge and two rows of snow fencing at the Cove was actually washed out into the lake. Most of that has been recovered.

Quinn also points out the lake level is expected to remain high and there will be more storms, so they are looking for ways to protect the beaches as much as possible.
