Field Testing Starts In Huron Kinloss For Nuclear Waste Storage

New field work in Huron-Kinloss is being planned by the Nuclear Waste Management Association.

As part of its research, Phase 2 of its preliminary assessment will partially focus on regional geography of the area.

Huron-Kinloss council has provided a map outlining five municipal properties that could be used for bore hole drilling.

Mike Krizanc, NWMO communications manager, told the Huron-Kinloss Nuclear Waste Community Advisory Committee last night that the bore holes have nothing to do with a possible site for a nuclear waste deep depository operation.

Nine Ontario communities are still involved in the Adoptive Phased Management, Canada's plan for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel.

The communities are Huron-Kinloss, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Hornepayne, Ignace, Manitouwadge, South Bruce and White River. Central Huron is taking part in Phase 1 studies.
