Saugeen Shores Police Will Not Provide Service To South Bruce Peninsula

South Bruce Peninsula council has one less option available as it looks at the future of policing in the municipality.

Saugeen Shores council has declined a request from South Bruce Peninsula, who were seeking a quote for police service costing from the Saugeen Shores Police Service.

Chief Dan Rivett says it's not the right time for expanding the police service, pointing out the entire industry is trying to get a handle on the new OPP costing model and where it's going over the long-term.

He says it might make sense in the future for Bruce County municipalities to come together with an amalgamated police force.

"At some point, I think this community and maybe Bruce County as a whole may have to look at a Bruce County costing model in order to use those economies of scale and recognize that policing is changing as we speak," says Rivett.

South Bruce Peninsula council signed a one-year contract with the OPP earlier this year, with the intention of seeking alternative options for its policing.
