Between 300 and 400 Huron County students are facing suspension due to incomplete immunization records.
The Huron County Health Unit will send out the notices to students who did not respond to a second notice on May 8.
If families don't provide proof of immunization, or a valid exemption for their child, the student could be suspended on May 26 for up to 20 school days.
In some cases, the students may be properly immunized, but the records are not up to date at the Health Unit.
It is the parent's responsibility to inform the health unit.
Public Health Manager Christina Taylor says they realize everyone is busy, so try to work with families to ensure up to date records or arrange immunizations to ensure a healthy school environment.
“Immunizations are a key part of public health,” says Taylor. “Ensuring students are immunized keeps our schools and communities safe and healthy.”
Ontario students without a valid exemption must be vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella. Last year vaccines for meningitis and pertussis (whooping cough) were added to the list, as well as varicella (chickenpox) vaccine for students born in 2010 or later.
