It looks like it's going to be several years before the battle over ownership of Sauble Beach will be heard in court.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson says they held a case conference last Friday with lawyers on both sides of Saugeen First Nation's land claim, seeking to set a date for a trial.
She says lawyers representing the provincial government asked for the case to be held over until 2018 in order to allow them to prepare arguments.
Jackson says the judge encouraged all parties to schedule pre-trial discovery hearings, a process where the both sides disclose their evidence for the trial.
"I'm looking forward to the discovery process, because there is an awful lot of information that we can provide. We really have a lot of great, solid evidence on our side and I know that our legal team, our new legal team, is very anxious to present it all," says Jackson.
Saugeen First Nation is seeking ownership of a two-kilometre stretch of beach from Main St. N to 6th St.
