Region Employers Find Job Candidates Disappointing

A survey by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board has found that lack of skills, motivation, or attitude were the top issues employers faced trying to fill job positions.

The EmployerOne survey found similar results to a Skills Gap Study completed last year.

Executive Director Gemma Mendez-Smith says there is a trend indicating work ethic and soft skills are critical for business.

However, job applicants are not meeting expectations.

Most employers report the availability of qualified workers was fair to poor.  The board also covers Bruce and Perth counties.

Respondents from Grey and Huron counties reported the greatest discontent. Hard to fill positions range from engineers to labourers.

Local governments and educators can use the survey results to help address labour market challenges.
