Secondary school students from Bruce and Grey counties will compete in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Technological Skills Challenge this Friday
The 11th annual challenge is taking place at various locations in Owen Sound including Georgian College, St. Mary's High School, and Owen Sound Collegiate Vocational Institute.
Students will compete in sectors such as small powered equipment, electrical, automotive, hair styling, welding, precision machining, carpentry and culinary arts
Local industry judges will evaluate competitors according to industry standards.
The top scoring students will advance to the district challenges in April, or provincial challenge in May at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition in Waterloo.
Some students attending the regional challenge were able to secure apprenticeships with potential employers during previous regional challenges.
“The Regional Technological Skills Challenge is our biggest and most popular annual local event when it comes to students with an interest in the skilled trades. This year, we are also encouraging local businesses and industries to come out for a tour of the various competitions as students showcase their skills and learning,” says OYAP Coordinator/Facilitator Dave Barrett.
