Certain Huron East Homes More Vulnerable To Frozen Water

The Municipality of Huron East has developed a unique way of dealing with frozen water pipes.

Mayor Bernie MacLellan says it's become a problem over the last two years, but they've been tracking frozen pipes since 1991 and have a considerable inventory of which pipes tend to freeze.

MacLellan explains they had a few last year and 39 so far this year, and their records indicate that it's often the same ones that are vulnerable.

The municipality can now use that inventory to notify those vulnerable home owners when temperatures got low enough that their pipes are at risk and they can inform them how fast they should run their taps to avoid freezing.

MacLellan adds since 1991 there have been a total of over 50 homes that have experienced frozen pipes in Huron East.
