Facilities Review For Huron County

Huron County's Planning Department is starting a facilities review.

Planning Director Scott Tousaw explains the county owns several buildings with specific uses, but this study will focus on office functions. It will include the courthouse and the assessment office in Goderich and the Health and Library complexes, as well as the Jacob Memorial building south of Clinton.

Tousaw points out that many of these buildings were originally constructed for something else and over time converted to office space, so they're not as efficient as they should be.

The goal of the study is to evaluate the cost of operating these buildings as they are now -- compared to a lease operation or new buildings.

Huron County councillors will discuss the report when they do some priority setting for the county.
