After more than 30 years with the Avon Maitland District School Board and its predecessor, the Huron County Board of Education, Superintendent Mike Ash has announced his retirement.

The announcement was made last night at a special board meeting. His retirement is effective August 31 of this year.

Ash will continue in his role as superintendent of education responsible for Safe Schools, Student Success, Information Services and Technology and a number of the board's secondary Schools.

Ash was appointed to his current position in 2008 and his career included being principal at Goderich District Collegiate Institute and Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton.

Ash's 30-year career in education began when he was hired by the Huron County Board of Education to teach at Seaforth District High School in September 1985.
