Arthur Sewage Plant Over Capacity

A report on sewage treatment plants in Wellington North shows the Mount Forest plant has plenty of excess capacity to handle growth, but the Arthur plant continues to operate beyond its capacity.

It means a development freeze will continue in Arthur except for projects with reserved space at the treatment plant.

Wellington North plans an aggressive campaign to determine how storm water is getting into the sanitary sewer system.

"On the up side, we've been able to run the plant and meet the effluent criteria set by the Ministry of the Environment," says Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox. "Although we're over what we're licensed for, we're still not creating any undue stress on the river."
