Harriston Dumping Station May Re-open

Minto is listening to a plea from campers who want to use the Harriston dumping station for their trailer.

The station was closed to outsiders last year after council heard it was being used by many campers who did little more than use the dumping station and pass on through town.

But campers Barb and Gary Dahms wrote to council that they would be happy to pay for the privilege of using the Harriston dumping station. The couple notes that they and their friends also shop in Harriston.

Minto is going to look at the possibility of issuing keys and charging for use of the dump station.

Minto Mayor George Bridge says: "One of the problems we had was we didn’t want to end up having a staff member down there. So the staff is going to go back and have a look and see if they pay a certain fee and have a fee, they can use it the same way as the locals can do it."
