The mayor of Meaford is confident the final plans for a five-storey commercial-residential building in Meaford will blend in with the area.
Barb Clumpus says the developer has assured her that the building will have a heritage look, similar to the adjoining buildings on the main street.
Leno Toncic wants to tear down a four-storey building and replace it with a five-storey structure that would feature 97 residential units of various sizes, and shops on the ground floor.
But the proposal is one storey higher than what is currently allowed under Meaford’s zoning by-law.
Meaford council is waiting for a report from it's planners.
If council approves the development it would still have to go to Grey County for final approval.
