Bluewater Struggles to Lower Tax Levy

Reduced funding and higher costs are making the Municipality of Bluewater budget process challenging.

CAO Gary Long says they've managed to bring a 25 per cent tax levy hike down to about 8 per cent. And they'll meet next week in hopes of reducing it further.

He says Bluewater faces increased OPP costs and reduced funding from the province. He adds the asset management plan has been created to show what they should be spending on roads, bridges and infrastructure.

Long says it's a balancing act between investing in the community, and keeping the tax burden manageable

The municipality plans to bring forward a a proposed budget to a public meeting March 2, and it could be finalized later that evening.
