Meaford Resident Duped In Online Purchase

A Meaford resident got a surprise in the mail recently.

Grey County OPP say the man thought he had bought an iPhone online.

What he got instead was a bar of soap.

The victim called police Tuesday to say he had been scammed out of $275.

In mid-November 2014, the victim had purchased the iPhone from a private seller in the Kingston area on Kijiji.

When the phone failed to arrive within a reasonable time, he contacted the seller who offered an explanation in that a friend’s mother was in medical distress.

When the parcel finally did arrive, the victim discovered a bar of soap inside instead of the iPhone.

The fraud was reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
