Hungry Coyotes On The Prowl

Coyotes may be getting bolder.

The OPP in Collingwood received a complaint this week that a small dog was snatched by what was believed to be a coyote. The dog was in the backyard of a residence on Chamberlain Cres.

Police are advising people who walk with a family pet that a cat or dog may be seen as prey by coyotes, so keep all pets on leashes or confined to a fenced-in yard.

All midwestern Ontario residents are reminded to secure garbage containers on your property.

Pedestrians, hikers and cross-country skiers are advised that whistles and electronic alarms may frighten away an approaching coyote.
