North Huron Fire Service Busy

The North Huron Fire Department is coming into the winter months on the heels of an already busy year.

Chief David Sparling says they have responded to 53 per-cent more calls this year, and there's been a spike in major calls such as structure fires and collisions.

Sparling adds an alarming number of people have had to be cut free from vehicles, saying the fire department has performed more extrications in the last three months than in the past three years.

The high volume of calls also takes its toll on the budget and Chief Sparling says the volunteer firefighters coming to the assistance of the public sometimes missing their regular jobs.
