Huron County Teacher's Human Digital Library Attracts Attention

Students at Stephen Central Public School in Huron County were able to join students at 500 other schools across North American recently for a concert.

They were able to do that through a Human Digital Library created by teacher and Technology Coach Leigh Cassell.

She says she had no idea where her project would go when she started two years ago.  She felt there was a need to bring the world into her classroom because Stephen Central school, and other rural schools like hers, were so isolated, with field trips not being very practical.

Her Human Digital Library was featured in the quarterly magazine put out by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. Just days after the magazine was published, over 100 more teachers registered with her library.

Cassell points out that the Digital Human Library provides a gateway to the entire world, and over the last two years she has brought guests from all over the world to conduct inter-active discussions with her students.
