A new medication packaging and dispensing system is now running at the hospital in Kincardine.
Kincardine is the first of the four South Bruce Grey Health Centre sites to implement the technology.
The automated medication dispensing system will reduce errors and increase the accuracy and efficiency of medication delivery.
This system includes electronic medication cabinets and carts, connected to SBGHC’s electronic medical records. The medication carts are mobile, allowing nursing staff to access the patient’s electronic medication record at the bedside.
The other sites will adopt the technology later this month; November 17 in Walkerton, and November 19 in Chesley and Durham.
“Implementing this new medication delivery system is a significant change in practice for our nursing and pharmacy staff,” says Paul Rosebush, SBGHC president and CEO. “They work in a very busy and challenging environment and are doing an excellent job with this transition.”
