The City of Stratford is set to welcome delegates from around the world for the "Stratfords of the World Reunion," taking place from August 2 to August 9, 2023.
Attendees will represent various Stratfords, including those from Canada (Ontario and PEI), the U.S. (Connecticut), the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
In honor of this special event, Stratford city council has declared Thursday, August 3, 2023, as "Stratfords of the World Day," and the entire week of August 2-9, 2023, as "Stratfords of the World Week" in the city.
The reunion celebrates the shared heritage of these towns, all bearing the name "Stratford." The connection to William Shakespeare is evident, and some locations boast their own Shakespeare theatres. Notably, Stratford, Connecticut, has been making strides to revive its Shakespeare theatre, and progress has been made with an academy for young actors and the opening of the theatre to the public after years of neglect.
The festivities will include flying the "Stratfords of the World" flag at City Hall from August 3 to August 10, 2023.
