Ontario Not Quite Ready For Autonomous Tractors

Last summer, Case and New Holland unveiled their autonomous tractors.

With a continually growing need for farm help, it seems inevitable that the change to a more automatic workforce in the field will happen soon, but Territory Sales Manager for Case IH Robert Meier doesn't see that happening for a while.

"The technology is there and coming quickly. I think it's peoples acceptance of it that's the big challenge. It think it has it's applications, maybe not so much around here, but in more open areas."

Meier estimates it'll probably take two decades before most farms around here implement an autonomous tractor.

He notes farmers still feel too much joy in driving around a new machine to give that feeling up any time soon.

John Deere has also unveiled a look at the future of tractors.

In December, Deere gave a sneak peak at its newest prototype -- a 402 horsepower electric motor.
