Hanover's Police Chief is proud of the latest crime severity numbers released by Statistics Canada, which showed a significant decrease in 2025.
The Crime Severity Index (CSI) for Hanover last year was 69.59, down 36.20 from 2024. Stats Can says CSI accounts for both the amount of crime reported by police in their given jurisdiction and the seriousness of the crimes.
Hanover Police said they haven't seen a CSI this low since 2015.
The town also saw a slight decline in the Weighted Clearance Rate, which measures how many crimes are resolved using the same scale of seriousness as the CSI. But while the 2025 clearance rate of 64.5 was a decrease from 2024, Police Chief Chris Knoll said it was signficantly higher than the provincial average.
"Achieving a clearance rate nearly 75 per cent above the provincial average shows the commitment of our members and the trust we have from our community as we work together to solve crimes and deliver results, ensuring that Hanover remains a safe place to live, work and play," said Chief Knoll.
Knoll also thanked citizens and community partners for their support, working together to ensure everyone remains safe and secure.
