Fatal workplace accident in Durham under investigation

The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a workplace fatality occurred in West Grey on Tuesday.

Emergency services responded to a call around noon along Grey Road 4 in Durham.

According to West Grey Police, a worker was electrocuted when a boom lift came into contact with a hydro wire. The identity of the deceased was not shared.

As a result, power was knocked out for much of West Grey for a few hours, but has since been restored.

Police say they can't share any more information as the matter is under ministry investigation, but the province is not offering many details either.

"On July 28, 2026, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) was notified of a workplace fatality in Durham," read a statement from a MLITSD spokesperson. "Ministry inspectors have attended the scene. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time."
