Second phase of Walkerton bridge reconstruction begins

The second phase of the Durham Street bridge rehabilitation project will resume on Monday, resulting in more disruptions for the Saugeen River crossing.

Bruce County says initially, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures on the bridge, with traffic control measures in place.

Within the month, the bridge will transition to alternating traffic with a single-lane closure managed by temporary traffic lights, the same way it operated for most of 2025.

The county says a 3-level load limit weight restriction on bridge remain in effect. Drivers over that limit can find alternate routes here.

It is anticipated the work will be completed in July.

Construction on the project first started back in May 2024.
