Impaired driving charge laid after driver crashes into snowbank

Charges have been laid after a driver crashed into a snowbank in Mildmay and then allegedly took off running.

South Bruce OPP were called about a suspected impaired driver at a business on Highway 9 last Wednesday. While officers were enroute, a second report came in indicating the same vehicle was now travelling on Peter Street South.

Police found the vehicle, which had collided with a snowbank, abandoned. The driver had reportedly run from the scene.

A 56-year-old Mildmay man was arrested without incident shortly after. He is charged with one count of operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs. The man is scheduled to appear in Walkerton court in relation to the charge on April 8.
