Impaired charge laid in crash that killed dog

A crash east of Aylmer that injured one person and killed a dog has led to impaired driving charges against a 27-year-old man.

Emergency crews were called to the two-vehicle T-bone collision on Talbot Line near Walker Road in Malahide Township around 8:20 a.m. on Saturday. The driver of one of the vehicles had to be cut from the wreckage and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The uninjured driver reportedly showed signs of intoxication. Police administered a roadside sobriety test, which the driver is alleged to have failed. The driver was arrested and refused to provide a breath sample after being taken to the St. Thomas OPP detachment .

A 27-year-old Aylmer man is charged with impaired driving and failure to comply with a police demand. His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for one week. He is scheduled to appear in St. Thomas court in relation to the charges on August 6.
